Khari Mightly: The Mom, the Mogul, the Movement

A Journey from Rock Bottom to Rocking the BlockIn the heart of Conyers, Georgia,  just outside the noise of the city, stands a storefront unlike any other. It’s colorful. It’s alive. It buzzes with music, laughter, and the voices of entrepreneurs chasing dreams. This is My Milk and Money, and behind its name is a woman who’s rewritten her story on her own terms.

Before the magazine. Before the storefront. Before the community hub that now nurtures over 20 businesses—Khari Mightly was a woman facing her hardest chapter. She was a new mother. Recently separated. Her career as a childcare director had ended. Her finances were shaky. Her confidence—shakier.

“I couldn’t wrap my head around one thing good before the next thing hit me,” she recalls. “It was like I was in a storm that wouldn’t stop.”And yet, in the middle of the chaos—Khari birthed something beautiful. Not just her first son, King, but a concept that would eventually become a movement.

“I remember thinking, ‘How do I do this? How do I raise a baby and still build a business?’ That’s where the name came from—my milk, my money. That’s what I had. That’s what I needed.”From that moment, My Milk and Money was born—not just as a business, but as a symbol of resilience, motherhood, and community empowerment.

What began as a small dance studio and pop-up space has now transformed into a full-scale retail hub, and in 2024, it birthed yet another dream: HUBB Magazine. We sat down with Khari Mightly to talk about her journey, her mission, and what it really means to build legacy while raising kings—literally.

THE INTERVIEW

with Khari Mightly, Founder of My Milk and Money & HUBB Magazine

HUBB Magazine: Let’s go back to the beginning. How did My Milk and Money really start?

Khari Mightly: Whew—where do I start? (laughs) It was 2018. I had just had my son, King, and my life was honestly falling apart. I went from having a steady job and a business to losing both in what felt like a blink. I was tired, broke, and confused. But I had this baby looking up at me—and I had this fire inside that wouldn’t go out. I started thinking, “What can I do? What can I build?”I kept juggling feedings and brainstorming, and that’s when I came up with the name. My Milk and Money—it represented both my motherhood and my mission. It’s funny because it started as just a dance studio. Then we added pop-ups. And now it’s grown into something I never could’ve predicted.

HUBB Magazine: And now in 2025, you’re getting ready to celebrate seven years?

Khari Mightly: Yes! June 21st, Juneteenth weekend. It’s going to be big. We’ve come such a long way. We’ve pivoted so many times, but the one thing that’s never changed is the heart behind it. This place was built for moms like me. For business owners like me. For anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t have a seat at the table—we built the whole room.

HUBB Magazine: Describe what My Milk and Money is today.

Khari Mightly: Today, it’s a retail hub for small businesses. We house over 20 brands under one roof. These are entrepreneurs, creatives, product makers—people chasing dreams just like I was. We also host pop-up shops, networking events, and community classes. We want to bring people together. Whether you're a customer or a vendor, the experience should feel like family. And of course, it all still ties back to motherhood. We’re planning to reintroduce Mommy and Me events and more things specifically for moms. That’s where this started, and I want to honor that.

HUBB Magazine: You’re also a mother of two now—King and Sir. How do they inspire you?

Khari Mightly: They’re everything. Every decision I make—every risk, every win—it’s all for them. I want them to see what it looks like to dream big, to work hard, and to walk in purpose. My kids are watching me build something real, and I hope it shows them that they can build too.

HUBB Magazine: What’s the core mission of My Milk and Money?

Khari Mightly: It’s simple: Empower, encourage, educate, and elevate. We want to reduce the number of small and Black-owned businesses that shut down because of lack of resources. We help businesses make sense and make dollars. We want to be that space where entrepreneurs feel seen, supported, and equipped. And for the moms in the community, we want to be a lifeline. A resource. A place where they know they’re not alone.

HUBB Magazine: What sparked your idea to start HUBB Magazine?

Khari Mightly: Honestly, frustration. I kept looking for marketing outlets that really served my audience—and they just didn’t exist. I was tired of being overlooked. So I said, okay then, I’ll build my own. HUBB Magazine is more than ads. It’s a resource. It’s a connection point. It’s how we unify Black businesses and get their stories out in front of the people who need them.

HUBB Magazine: You’ve built a brand. A family. A movement. What does success look like to you now?

Khari Mightly: Success used to mean money. Now? It’s legacy. It’s watching my vendors hit milestones. It’s seeing moms walk through the doors and feel inspired. It’s knowing my sons are proud of me. That’s success. That’s wealth.

HUBB Magazine: Any final words for other moms and entrepreneurs out there?

Khari Mightly: Don’t wait to feel ready. You’ll never feel ready. Start with what you have—even if it’s just milk and a dream. Build something your future self will thank you for. And don’t just dream—do. Don’t just pray, press!

As the doors of My Milk and Money continue to open for more dreamers, creators, and community members, one thing is clear: Khari Mightly isn’t just making money—she’s making history.
